I've clearly been working FAR too hard, or I'd have posted about this ages ago. Just before my birthday at the end of May, the parents closed on what will be our new home! Australian homes are ridiculously expensive, and lending criteria are tight, so we buying our own home was a bit of a pipe dream. Hubby's parents offered us an option a few years ago, and things are now underway :) They want to caravan around Australia for most of the year, visiting friends & family & enjoying the countryside... but they also wanted to buy a little house somewhere to have a home base. The way they are making that happen is to install us as UnTenants (lol my own word!), so it will be, for all intents & purposes, be OURS... and we are over the moon!! We move it at the end of the year as some minor reno's need to be done, and we have to finish our lease here anyway.
THIS is our soon to be little abode :D It's a pretty simple place, the downstairs houses the laundry and our office area... and the rest will be the parents suite when they are home from traveling. The living area upstairs has gorgeous beamed & vaulted ceilings that I love :D and lovely hardwood floors. The kitchen is functional, although it's nothing super flash... but it's MINE!

Doesn't look much like what one would picture a witches cottage, does it? But it's the witch makes the home & not the other way 'round! Our new place is a little smaller than the rental we are in now, so I'm commencing some divine de-cluttering to get rid of things that are just sitting around stagnating the energy of the house and gathering dust. I've already donated a LOT of stuff, and there's more to go. I'm doing a lot of thinking about decorating and how my spirituality is represented in my home.... not just in my altars, but throughout the house.
The traditional idea of a witches cottage inside is mystical and chocked full of a zillion things, shelves with jars and books, herbs hanging to dry, candles all over, and of course a cat snoozing by the open fire. Unfortunately, that scenario would completely drive me bat shit crazy lol. I guess you could say that when my space is cluttered, my mind is cluttered too. So, I try to keep excess crap to a minimum. NOT always an easy task with a husband, 3 boys, and 4 cats!!! I love the idea of how it looks... but I have accepted that it's just not gonna be my reality.
My reality is more funky eclectic modern... a little Scandinavian (ie., Ikea lol)... a little shabby chic (meaning eBay/yard sales!)... and a goodly dose of cat fur and probably more than a little dust ;)

THIS is much more my speed! I've already got my funky painted turquoise dining set hehehe. I'm thinking some wrought iron 'look' lighting on the wood ceiling beams (the place currently has icky flouro's)
I'm planning some 'built in' (really flat pack, but with moldings added to give it the look) book cases wrapping around a corner in the lounge, some colour on the walls (not sure WHAT yet though), and I'm hoping to do a sliding barn door to be able to close off the hallway to the bedrooms. My dining hutch will reside in the main living area, and will continue to be where my main altar lives. I'm also contemplating getting the kitchen window tented and ditching the hideous vertical blinds so I can have a little kitchen altar on the window sill :) And I'm itching to make my very own permanent bedroom sanctuary. *sigh*
I'm already plotting our gardening exploits, but that'll be a post of its own. For now, me, pinterest, and my notebook, have a lot of work to do!
Til next time.
